Breaking the Silence: The Period Project
On 31st May 2025 ,We took an important step in breaking barriers and fostering open conversations with The Period Project—a discussion dedicated to shedding light on menstrual health, dispelling myths, and empowering students with knowledge.
At Akuapem Hills Foundation, we believe that education is the key to eliminating stigma. Our mission is to create safe spaces where important topics, often whispered about, can be spoken freely.
We kicked off the discussion by posing a thought-provoking question to students: What do you think periods are? The responses highlighted a mix of curiosity, misinformation, and keen interest in understanding the topic better.
From defining menstrual cycles to addressing myths like "you can’t exercise during your period" or "menstruation makes you impure," we broke down misconceptions that have persisted for generations.
The Questions & Answers segment encouraged an open dialogue, allowing students to gain clarity, challenge taboos, and leave with a renewed perspective. Because knowledge isn’t just power—it’s freedom.
Together, we’re making strides toward a future where menstrual health is understood, respected, and discussed without shame.
